Organization: Parkland Health
Programs: Clinical Education - Nursing & Ancillary Staff
Design Objective: Training Video Creation
Learning Objective: Create a resource video that demonstrates the workflow for documenting tube feedings in a patient, utilizing the medication administration record (MAR).
Background: Previously, tube feedings for patients were considered a diet order. The transition of tube feedings to an electronic prescription (eRx) changes how nurses document the initiation, continuation, change in dose, or discontinuation of a tube feeding.

Overview:
The transition from tube feedings for patients from a diet order to an e-Rx in the inpatient setting impacts almost 3000 bedside nurses at Parkland Health. In order to disseminate such a massive change quickly, creating a step-by-step tutorial, with as many hypothetical situations is imperative to the knowledge-sharing facets, in addition to providing a clear resource. As a result, a video just shy of 6 minutes was created to provide the necessary steps, in addition to hypothetical call-outs and potential safety-related issues. Additionally, creating a resource that included contact information for clarity or concerns is included to allow users to submit feedback or ask questions.
Outcomes:
Overall, the go-live related to this video went well, with minimal impact on patient care. Users were provided the resources, and analytics indicate that the average users are watching the key introductory features. This video is the initial stage of video training and resources for the organization, and the analytics give us valuable feedback. While the user feedback indicates that about 50% of users are watching an average of 3 minutes of video, this feedback allows us to analyze the content and compare it to user falloff, and implement changes with new content moving forward.
